August 4th, 2008Easy Net Access through Mobile Phones
India, is one of the fastest growing telecom markets with over 8 million new subscribers every month, but only a fraction of that number uses their mobiles to access the Internet.
Mobile users in India are generally wary of accessing the Internet through GPRS because of the hefty price they may have to pay to the service provider.
July Systems a telecom company based at Bangalore has found a solution to this problem. Mr. Rajesh Reddy, Cheif Executive of July Systems explains that since most Indian mobile service providers offered GPRS service to even prepaid customers it was just a matter of activating the feature.
The users need only pay for the size of the Internet download rather than a fixed monthly charge. July Systems, Bangalore has designed a tool which enables even a layman to get the required information from the websites, either by sending an SMS or even making a voice call to selected companies. They, in turn would respond with an SMS message that is a link to the web page the users ask for.
The company has named it Mi, meaning My Mobile Internet. As Mr. Reddy explains, ” The difference between Mi and normal browsing from a phone is the difference between push and pull. You don’t have to pull in the information you seek; we push it to you, in a compact package”.
